Alexia Nastasia, Headliners of Summer
During the 2022-23 school year, Alexia Nastasia is a participant in the US Department of State’s Kennedy-Lugar YES Abroad Program, which has enabled her to live and study in the country of Senegal in Western Africa. As part of this prestigious program, Alexia takes courses at the Sacré Cœur School in the capital city of Dakar and engages in an array of community service activities. In her home city of Saint Louis, Mo., Alexia pursued the International Baccalaureate at Lindbergh High School, and was an apprentice for the Teens Make History program of the Missouri Historical Society for over three years, as well as a summer intern for the United Way through the Bank of America Student Leaders Program in 2022. Alexia has made contributions as a youth leader to the Saint Louis County Youth Advisory Council, the Federal Emergency Management Agency Youth Preparedness Council, and the Girls Learn International Student Advisory Board. As a member of a family of new immigrants from Eastern Europe to the United States, Alexia highly values rigor, creativity, and striving to overcome challenges, as well as providing inclusive opportunities. Alexia is a writer for Ms. Magazine, YR Media, The Feminist Focus blog, and Greenzine. During summer 2022, she participated in the youth digital content production program of FreshFilms. She was a soprano 1 for the Saint Louis Children’s Choirs and has been a member of the Gospel Choir of Sacré Cœur School in Dakar. Alexia will attend Boston University beginning in fall 2023, as a member of the Kilachand Honors College and a major in International Relations. (May 2023)
