Located on NASA Parkway, Space Center Houston is the official visitor center of National Aeronautics and Space Administration Johnson Space Center in Houston. It contains the world’s only space shuttle replica, and generates $118.7 million annually. The space center preserves NASA’s history while teaching visitors about the future of space exploration.
Space Center Houston aims to display NASA’s success in the past, with space shuttles available for visitors, while teaching visitors about NASA’s future missions, like Artemis and Orion. We had the opportunity to tour the exhibitions and capture NASA’s history in photos. While we were there, we visited Rocket Park, Independence Plaza, and many more space themed attractions.
Hanging from the rafters at Space Center Houston is a model of the International Space Station (ISS) on June 29, 2024. The station was built in the US, Canada, Europe, and Japan, beginning in the late ‘80s. In 1993, the Russians joined the project, and, on Nov. 20, 1998, the ISS was launched into space. Overall, the ISS cost 150 billion dollars to complete. Today five organizations oversee ISS operations: the Canadian Space Agency, the European Space Agency, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, NASA and the State Space Corporation "Roscosmos". The ISS will remain operational until at least 2030.
