In Rome, many of the streets — I have mainly been in the neighborhood of the Pantheon — are named based on the shops on that street. For example, Via dei Sediari has a shop that sells chairs (sedia means chair). Campo dei Fiori is a plaza that sells flowers (fiori means flowers). These streets were named a long time ago when they were crawling with shops of their name’s nature, however now there are sometimes only one or two shops left of the name’s speciality. So when you’re in Rome you can get a sense of some streets just based on the name!
