Hi! I’m Katherine Schick. I’m 16 years old and I’m from Watertown, Mass. I’m a student journalist, dancer and dance teacher, Model UN participant, and I love watching movies, listening to music, writing fiction, and exploring my home state.
I’ve been studying Italian at school and with private tutors since I was 11, and this summer I’ll be studying in Rome. I’m studying through EF Education First, an international education program.
EF not only organizes tours for schools, offers gap-year programs, and runs international boarding schools, but it also has 50 international language campuses for 10 languages. These campuses are schools around the world that each specialize in a different language. For example, the campus I’ll be studying at is in Rome and teaches Italian. The school in Seoul, teaches Korean. Students from all over the world, who are at least 16 years old, go to these campuses for at least two weeks, where they study the language for half the day and take part in cultural tours and activities for the rest of the day. These students either stay in dorms, with host families, or at hotels. I’ll be staying with a host family, who is also taking in students from Mexico, Portugal, and France.
These “Postcards from Italy” will document some of my experiences abroad, from my time staying with an Italian family to hidden gems of Rome to the fun and memorable moments of my days in Italy. Enjoy!
From Roma with love, Kate
